16th week

hi hi! Its me again. I am now a 4 months old foetus. My spine is nicely formed and i am tall(106mm - curl) belonging to the higher tier in the ultrasound chart so my parents have buy 3-6 month clothing for me. During the scan, Dr Chan saw my big toes and pointed it to my parents. Mummy think i got that from daddy wahahha.

Today, i was all curled up facing downward with my legs crossed so my gender is still unknown. But Dr Chan guess that i am 70% girl girl. This kept my parent wondering how she arrive in that. Anyway, i will be going for a detailed scan next month. By then, i guess my gender will no longer be a secret... so shy... embarrassing u know...

Oh ya, Dr Chan advise mummy to eat more red meat n dark green vegetable cos her blood range for haemoglobin just pass nia. If fail mean "ping2 xue3". The reading will drop when i grow bigger and getting nutrients from mummy next time.

Pills for Mummy

Mummy had been taking folic acid daily since her 4th week of pregnancy. At 6th week, she was given samples of Neurogain fish oil to try. Dr Chan warned about complains of fishy burp after consuming the capsule and a nurse advice her to refrigerate the fish oil to reduce the fishy smell. Mummy did all and tried the capsule on the 11th week as advise. Fortunately, there was no fishy burps. Think is because mummy don't know how to burp for a start. Thats why.

Now in her second trimester, Dr Chan prescribe calcium lactate and pramilets(multivitamins) and more fish oil. Nurse says mummy have to take both fish oil and calcium pills till end of breastfeeding so that there is sufficient milk or nutrient for me.

Today, was the first day of many pills and capsule course. Mummy need to take one fish oil capsule, 2 calcium pill and 1 multivitamin pill. She also realize the size of the newly bought fish oil capsule is larger than the sample she took last time and harder to swallow. Guess she has no choice but to drink more water.

Bouncing baby

Guess who's the bouncing baby. Its me, of course. Mummy and daddy took me for Oscar scan yesterday morning. I was playing in mummy and was caught in action bouncing and waving my left hands. Both Mummy and daddy was delighted and amazed as i was lying down horizontally bouncing up and down. Our Oscar assistant was a middle-age lady named PM Fong. She waited patiently for me to bounce so that she can take the measurement of my NT(Something to do with skin at the neck area) as well as some ultrasound picture.
However, due to my resting position or the machine, she wasn't able to obtain the measurement and mummy and daddy was advise to take the blood test first then go back again in 20 mins to see if i will move to a position easier for taking measurement.

Blood test time!! This is the first time blood was drawn from Mummy since donkey years. As many may know, mummy is terrified of injection and blood test. The nurse administering the blood test wasn't gentle at all. Mummy can feel all her motion in changing empty blood tubes. Mummy was silently telling herself, endure it's ending soon. Never did she know there was 4 tubes to fill. Finally, her ordeal is over and next is daddy's turn. Daddy was very brave and he offered his left arm as he see that the nurse was having trouble looking for the veins on the right. He was calm and 2 tubes were taken from him.

For our second scan, we waited an hour instead if 20 mins. It was frustrating being the first few to scan and ending up the last to leave. In total, we spent the entire morning from 9.30am till 12noon at TMC. :( Plus, we have to return at 4pm for the results. Haiz...

Dr Chan says i am a medium size baby and the Nuchal Translucency(NT) is thin and normal. Estimated risk of Trisomy 21(Down Syndrome) for mummy's age group is 1:614 and the adjusted risk taking into account mummy's test results shows a lower risk of 1:12289. Dr chan then goes on to say "However, low risk doesn't mean no risk just like crossing the road". Should know what she means liao lor..
Notice the small black patch on the last scan on the right? That's my left hand waving

8th Week Update

Recently Mummy have been experiencing more of those pregnancy symptoms like nausea, burping, body temperature fluctuation, headache , bloated tummy and constipation. It was so bad till she has no appetite and couldn't sleep well at night due to the dramatic body temperature fluctuation. Though no appetite, she still managed to eat a proper dinner in order to make sure I don't go hungry. At the same time, Daddy is also worried about me not getting enough nutrients as Mummy is quite picky about her food.

We visited Dr Chan for the second time today. As usual, I am sharing my ultrasound scan image here. Dr Chan commented that I am quite tall as I measure 16.7cm now. She attributed this to my tall parents. Take a look at me now *blink blink*

A peek into the womb

Mummy and Daddy brought me to see our gynea, Dr Yvonne Chan yesterday. It was 9am in the morning and I was still sleepy. It was mummy's first visit and I could sense the anxiety and excitement as they waited.

Dr Chan explained the pregnancy chart and mentally prepared my parents on what to expect from the scan. Ideally, at 6 1/2 weeks, they might be able to see me and even hear my heart beats if they are lucky. However, there is also a chance of seeing nothing but the water bag as the foetus development may be slower than expected.

Now let me introduce myself. I am a 4 1/2 weeks foetus. Gynea says I am 6 1/2 weeks making reference to mummy's LMP(25 Nov 2008) making me 2 weeks older then i actually am. I am now 1.8cm in length with a tiny heart blinking when detected in the ultrasound machine. See my heart beat on the first scan on top. Click on the picture to enlarge the view.

Dr Chan also says i am located in the right place within womb and will see me in 2 weeks to ensure that i am growing fine. So happy :P

Detecting my existence

It was 27th Dec 2008, Sat. Mummy's menses was late and she has been feeling bloated and getting strange sensation in her tummy. Frequency of urination has also increased.

With all these symptoms on-going, Daddy was very curious and excited to get Mummy to take the pregnancy test. Pestering her since morning, they finally went to Junction 8 in the evening to make the purchase.

Back home, Mummy did the test and was pleasantly delighted by the positive result.
My Ah Gongs and Ah Mas are later informed about the news. This also mark the start of a series of research to look for a gyne for my health checkup and arrival.

Finally, they made an appt at TMC with Dr Yvonne Chan on 8 Jan 2008(Thur) 9am. I can sense mummy's excitement and anxiousness to make sure i am safe. She will definitely try her best to protect me.

With my presence, Daddy has became sweeter than before and showering more love to me and mummy. I can sense it.
